As a huge fan of Mr. Musk and a follower of his entrepreneurial endeavors, I enjoy consuming any material I can find regarding him. After reading the book by Ashlee Vance, I also purchased this Summary and Analysis in order to get further insight into one of the great geniuses of contemporary times. From the beginning, I enjoyed the succinct and dense summary of the books high points followed by a breakdown of the key people that affected his life. Also, the character analysis was quite erudite and provided a seemingly scholastic objective view of who he is as a person based on its observations of the biography. Also, under themes, I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison writing on Mr. Musk and Tony Stark; it was an elucidating parallel and the fact that it was included made the book even that much more entertaining. This companion book is a perfect summary for anyone wanting further clarity on the biography about Elon’s life and I found it to be an exceptional addition to the work.

Compelling review of a spectacular biography. Worth every penny. I loved reading about the successes and misfires of this incredible giant, Elon Musk. It's incredible that no matter the obstacles, he was still able to create these profitable businesses that push the boundaries of the tech industry.
I especially enjoyed the section in this review that compared Musk to the fictional character Tony Stark. There are many similarities between the two. It's fascinating that someone could actually live up to the fictional hero, and fill those giant shoes.
This review gives a brief overview and analysis of the biography, capturing the essence of Musk and his life. Well worth reading!

Essential companion to Elon Musk

I have been fascinated by Elon Musk and inspired by his many achievements for quite some time. Paypal is a feat in itself but the Tesla and space endeavors are huge. I was set to delve into Ashlee Vance's new biography of Musk and someone who had just read it warned me that it was a bit disjointed, as in not all chronologically laid out. I was glad to find Instaread's Summary & Analysis that I found to be an awesome companion to this important book, giving a good summary along the way, an analysis of the author's style, as well as info on important people in the book. A great summary to a very good biography.

About the Author
William Bay is president of Mel Bay Publications, Inc. He is an accomplished guitarist and trumpet player and has performed on both instruments in a wide variety of professional settings. He is experienced as a performer and composer of music ranging from jazz and rock to the classics and sacred. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his master's from the University of Missouri. Bill has received international acclaim for his innovative teaching methods, and he has authored over 200 books with sales in the millions. Mel Bay was born on February 25, 1913 in the little Ozark Mountain town of Bunker, Missouri. He bought a Sears Roebuck guitar at the age of 13 and several months later played his first "gig." (He recalled playing until his fingers were raw!) Mel took up the tenor banjo shortly thereafter and continued to play both instruments. During his teenage years Mel played with a wild assortement of bands and characters in rural Missouri. Perhaps no "gig" was as strange as the job he landed with, in Mel's words, "a snake oil salesman." This flamboyant peddler would pull his ostentatious Pierce Arrow automobile, complete with steer horns mounted on the grill, into the center of a small, rural town. Mel would sit on the car and play up a storm on the tenor banjo. After a crowd gathered, the peddler took over and began extolling the merits of his "wonder elixer." In 1933 Mel Bay moved to St. Louis and began his professional career. He played with numerous local and traveling bands. In addition, he landed staff guitar jobs on several radio stations. Mel fronted his own trio (piano, bass, guitar) and played steadily for 25 years! He was equally adept on most fretted instruments and played mandolin, uke, Hawaiian guitar, tenor and plectrum banjo professionally. While Mel was actively pursuing his playing career, he continued to teach as many as 100 students a week. He decided to begin writing instructional materials due to the difficulty encountered by guitarists at playing good sounding chord forms in rhythm sections and due to the poor note reading ability prevalent among guitarists. After the war Mel was asked to write instructional materials on guitar for GI's wanting to learn music under the GI Bill. In 1947 Mel formed his own publishing company and wrote his landmark initial book titled The Orchestral Chord System for Guitar. (This book is still in print under the title Rhythm Guitar Chord System and continues to be one the finest rhythm guitar chord texts available!) His Modern Guitar Method was penned shortly thereafter. For years Mel traveled from town to town talking to guitar teachers and players and showing them his publications. At one time Mel claims to have known virtually every guitar teacher in America on a first name basis! The guitar and Mel Bay books caught on in a big way in the 1950's. Things have continued to grow ever since. Mel used to sell D'Angelico guitars. At any given time he would have 5 or 6 "lying around the house." Mel played professionally on his New Yorker model but his favorite was the initial Mel Bay Model crafted as a gift for him by John D'Angelico. This famous guitar had all of the main features of the New Yorker but was a "cut away" model and had a slightly thinner neck. This instrument has been pictured on the Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method for decades. Someone once calculated that sales of guitar books written by Mel Bay have exceeded 25 million copies. When asked, Mel frequently said that he quit counting long ago. Sales of his Modern Guitar Method have alone surpassed the 7 million mark. It is safe to say that Mel Bay is one of the pivotal figures in the world of guitar music and instruction in this century.

Excellent!

I've started several attempts to get into learning guitar (books, CD's, DVD's), but this is the first that I felt had enough practice material to reinforce the concepts learned. It presents new things in bite-sized pieces, and it works for me. It is logically laid out and works well, especially the edition with the DVD, for the self-learner. I highly recommend it.

While living in Paris in the 1950s Alexander Trocchi was commissioned by Maurice Girodias, publisher of Olympia Press, to write "dirty books." Trocchi wrote Helen and Desire in one week in December 1953 and it was published under the pen name Frances Lengel. The book is the diary of Helen, daughter of a fishing boat captain in a rural village in Northwest Australia, who plans to use her natural enjoyment of sex to have adventures and travel the world. Determined to flout convention and chronicle her life, Helen writes of her loss of innocence on the eve of her 18th birthday, her use of men and their use of her, and her travels to Sydney, Singapore, India, France, and finally the deserts of North Africa. It is here that two officers of the French Foreign Legion who find Helen's journal make it public.

This book is about a woman who has no morals and will have sex with anyone, including other women. The "story" is thin, at best, and leaves gaping holes. Don't let your kids get ahold of it!

Great Read

I came to this book without knowing much about Vita Sackville West (just that I loved her book "all passion spent", and that she was, at one point, Virginia's lover), to my surprise and enjoyment I found out after reading it how deep their relationship was. How open, interesting, generous, complicated, funny, sweet, tender and amusing their relationship really was. It is a great read and if you are lucky to read the letters of Virginia Woolf (another great book, the letters of VW between 1925-1930), you get the whole view of what was going on between them. To anyone who loves Virgina Woolf this is a great book to read and to all the ones who have been intrigued by who Vita Sackville West was, this book is a great start, a really interesting one.

A good starting point in acoustics

This is book presents the reader with the essential knowledge required for the understanding and study of several acoustiscal phenomena.
Starting with an introduction to basic mathematical tools - both analytical (complex variables, fourier analysis, asymptotic analysis) and numerical (FE/BE approaches , ray tracing).
The second part of the book is dedicated sound generation by unsteady sources and deals, amongst other issues, with flow and propeller/helicopter generated sound.
The third part deals with wave modification and such topics as sound-bubble interaction and nonlinear acoustics.
To summarise, I think that this volume is a welcomed addition to the library of anyone with a serious interest in aero- or hydro- acoustics.

My Gita

Devdutt Patnaik is a master story-teller no doubt. He narrates mythological stories in easy and simple to understand words with apt and crisp illustrations along with the text. The two books “Jaya” and “Sita” that I read, showcase his amusing takes on mythological stories.
With a limited knowledge of Gita and its verses, I wanted to read Devdutt Patnaik’s version. I finally could lay my hands on his recent offering “My Gita”. After reading the first few pages I realised that keeping in mind to not ruffle any feathers of vigilante moral brigade of the country, he has titled the book as “My Gita” and reasoned that it is not the translation of much revered original text but his understanding of the most popular book of Hindus. “Let my Gita inform your Gita” he says.
He has attempted to simplify by not writing it in sequence as the original book but has reorganised it according to themes. The book is divided into eighteen themes like the concept of rebirth (Atma), our deeds and their reaction (Karma), our conduct (Dharma) similar to the eighteen chapters of The Gita. The book also has a brief history to understand the timeline when the original text was written. Citing examples from other beliefs and faiths, namely Jainism and Buddhism, the author has brought out difference in meaning of words like soul and atma, moksha and nirvana.
The Abrahmic and Greek concepts have also been cross-referenced throughout to emphasise on different thought processes like the concept of rebirth and gaining knowledge rather than changing the world and placing one’s value in the achievements of the lifetime.
Author has paraphrased the verses in simpler words to let each person understand as per his or her own capacity. So in a way Devdutt Patnaik’s Gita has managed to inform ‘my’ Gita.
Though author has tried best to simplify, but the book is not an ordinary read to breeze through. With lot of philosophy involved, at times I got little confused and my attention was lost and that is the reason that the book needs to be understood in an un-hurried way. Those who have read the original verses of the The Gita may not completely agree with the author’s ideas.
Though I find it easier and faster to read stories in English but somehow for this book I wished it was in native language Hindi to feel closer to and understand the words deha, atma, samvad, vivad, yoga, viyog, dharma etc.
And yet I would read this book again at much slower pace to understand author’s viewpoint properly.
